ZoogVPN Review – Is this Greek VPN Any Good? (2024)

zoogvpn-review

If you’re in the market for a mid-tier affordable VPN service, ZoogVPN likely caught your attention swiftly.

This Greece VPN promises undeniable privacy, excellent performance, and state-of-the-art encryption. Is this the case?

We’ll see that in our comprehensive test of ZoogVPN.

ZoogVPN Review: A Quick Verdict

Overall, ZoogVPN won’t impress users who used mighty VPNs like NordVPN or ExpressVPN previously.

It’s by no means a flagship VPN and isn’t impressive in any way. However, it does have a fair share of advantages and a few disadvantages that we listed below for those in a hurry:

Pros

  • VPN obfuscation
  • No traffic logs
  • WireGuard and other modern protocols
  • It works with 10+ Netflix libraries
  • Inexpensive subscription plans
  • Free plan with zero logs

Cons

  • No split tunneling on Windows
  • Smaller server network
  • Not working in China
  • Could be slightly faster

ZoogVPN Apps & Compatibility

ZoogVPN’s apps look fairly decent on mobile and desktop platforms.

In our test, the VPN displayed a high level of responsiveness, allowing for quick connections and easy access to numerous settings.

Surprisingly, the VPN has plenty of well-optimized apps for all platforms.

Zoog VPN App 1

Apart from iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux distros, ZoogVPN will work on:

  • Android TV
  • Blackberry
  • Routers
  • Firefox/Chrome browsers

Its router setup allows the VPN to work with other non-VPN-friendly devices. This means you can connect ZoogVPN to gaming consoles or the first-gen Fire TV Stick device.

We’re pretty satisfied with ZoogVPN’s overall compatibility and unlimited simultaneous connections in paid plans.

Features of ZoogVPN

Despite being an affordable service, ZoogVPN won’t leave you without the most important features. Here’s what the Greece VPN has to offer to its users.

Servers & Locations

At the time of writing, the VPN comes with servers in 35 countries and 70+ locations.

The company hasn’t disclosed the exact server count but we know it offers 1,000+ IP addresses. On this front, ZoogVPN could be improved, as its premium rivals offer way more.

ZoogVPN Servers

NordVPN has 6,500+ servers in 110+ countries and CyberGhost now has 12,000+ of them in 100+ countries.

256-bit Encryption

ZoogVPN uses bank-grade 256-bit encryption. It’s the strongest encryption in 2024 and virtually impenetrable.

The VPN relies on the 2048-bit hash key, which allows the service to protect your sensitive data against hackers and snoopers, especially on public WiFi networks.

Kill Switch

Users also get an automatic kill switch in every app. It will disable your internet if the VPN connection breaks, preventing your IP address from leaking to the public eye.

We tested this feature in ZoogVPN and can confirm it works pretty well.

ZoogVPN Kill Switch

However, we didn’t encounter any noticeable connection problems and the kill switch sprung into action one or two times during the review process.

ZoogShadowing

ZoogShadowing is the provider’s obfuscation. It’s, in theory, ideal for circumventing firewalls and bypassing censorship.

It’s basically the Stealth protocol that masks your VPN connection and ensures it looks like a normal connection instead, allowing you to get over DPI (Deep Packet Inspection).

Later in this ZoogVPN test, we’ll see if the provider works in China.

Split Tunneling

ZoogVPN comes with split tunneling but unfortunately, the Windows app doesn’t support it. You’ll find split tunneling on Android.

It lets you route specific portions of your traffic through the VPN tunnel, leaving the rest unencrypted. Pretty handy for gaming or any bandwidth-hungry activity.

DNS Leak Protection

ZoogVPN uses proprietary DNS servers to prevent DNS leaks. They’re enabled by default so that your DNS address never ends up in the wrong hands.

During our ZoogVPN test, our team didn’t encounter any IP or DNS leaks and each connection protected our privacy fully.

Modern VPN Protocols

For an affordable VPN, this one offers plenty of quality VPN protocols, such as:

We’re especially glad because of WireGuard, as it’s pretty fast and secure simultaneously. It’s one of the best protocols with Lightway and NordLynx from ExpressVPN and NordVPN respectively.

Does ZoogVPN Store Logs?

No, it doesn’t. It was located in the Isle of Man previously but as of recently, the VPN altered its legal jurisdiction to Greece.

Still a privacy-friendly country, Greece allows ZoogVPN to maintain a proper no-logs policy. Its privacy policy is short and perfectly explains the lack of logging.

No traffic data or IP addresses will be kept on the VPN’s servers. Even timestamps and visited websites aren’t stored.

The only information that ZoogVPN stores is used bandwidth, which can’t be used to identify you.

We wish ZoogVPN had a third-party audit, however. That would make it more trustworthy in the eyes of VPN experts.

ZoogVPN Speed Tests

Let’s see how ZoogVPN performs. Here’s our reference speed in Belgrade, Serbia, without using a VPN:

Native Speed

We tested ZoogVPN on a few server locations with the automatic protocol selection. Here are the results:

Germany:

United States:

Japan:

Canada:

Streaming & Torrenting With ZoogVPN

ZoogVPN is P2P-optimized and torrenting works on every server. We recommend using a nearby location to maximize the performance.

On the streaming front, the VPN is surprisingly capable. You get dedicated streaming servers in a wealth of worldwide countries.

ZoogVPN Netflix US

We tested it with Netflix US and it works like a charm. In fact, you can unblock at least 10 Netflix catalogs from countries such as Singapore, Sweden, Germany, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, and a lot more.

Even BBC iPlayer and many foreign TV channels can be accessed promptly. Such an amazing VPN for streaming!

Is ZoogVPN Working in China?

The VPN offers the aforementioned ZoogShadowing feature aimed at circumventing firewalls. In our test, ZoogVPN displayed poor results in China and couldn’t get over the Great Firewall.

Bear in mind we tested all of its protocols with ZoogShadowing enabled and even disabled in some cases.

Sadly, ZoogVPN is ill-equipped to get over the Great Firewall in 2024. We recommend NordVPN and its obfuscated servers using OpenVPN TCP or ExpressVPN and its built-in VPN obfuscation.

ZoogVPN Price Review

One of the best things about ZoogVPN is its free plan. It’s capped at 3 VPN locations and only 10 GB of monthly bandwidth.

However, ZoogVPN retains its no-logs policy here but uses 128-bit encryption instead of 256-bit.

Paid plans start at $2.49/mo for the 2-year deal with 3 free months.

ZoogVPN Price

The VPN has a 7-day money-back guarantee, with plentiful payment options like debit/credit cards, PayPal, Ali Pay, Google Pay, crypto, and a few more.

Customer Support of ZoogVPN

The VPN’s customer support is sublime. Apart from 24/7 live chat support, ZoogVPN can be contacted via email by filling out the contact form on the site.

Our experience shows that the VPN is responsive enough, with the support team willing to help you at any time.

ZoogVPN Review: The Final Verdict

In the end, ZoogVPN doesn’t bring anything new or shiny to the table.

It’s a decent VPN for the price whose main appeals are streaming, affordability, rock-solid security, and unlimited connections. ZoogVPN has a small server fleet, it’s not working in China and doesn’t provide the fastest speeds.

We also wish to see a longer refund policy and split tunneling on Windows. These aren’t major setbacks and we think ZoogVPN is worth the asking price, which is just under $2.5 a month – cheaper than a coffee at Starbucks!
